Every time we go on vacation, our biggest question tends to be : do we rent a hotel or do we air bnb it? For all of our trips, we take into consideration the city, time of year, the weather, and the days of the week. Before our last getaway to California, we were faced with that same question. However, although we have visited SoCal many times, there are two main reasons why you should stay in a hotel while visiting La Jolla:
Ugh what I would do to live in Italy. Although I’ve only visited twice, I’ve spent a good chunk of time there both times I’ve visited. As you can imagine, my favorite part of Italy is obviously the food. Don’t get me wrong, the sites are beautiful and the air is fresh AF, but the food is pure gold. I had ZERO stomach or skin issues when I was just there. None. I ate whatever I wanted, where I wanted, no limits on quantity either. And even though we walked around a ton everyday, I LOST weight. Yes, lost. Why? Again, the food is pure.
This is the first time I’ve not attended Thanksgiving Dinner with my family. However, we had made plans weeks before we found out that I was pregnant, to do our own thing. We wanted to head back to one of our favorite cities, Boston. While we were there, we wanted to visit Plymouth, where the whole holiday began. Genius right?
Since 2011, my sister and I have taken a sister-trip or do a sister-activity at least once a year. Although I’ve been to California a handful of times, Sara has never been that far West. Besides hitting up all of the natural touristy spots for her, I also had to do a lot of research on where to eat because of my known food allergies/sensitivites. Not eating donuts (and fonuts), normal fish tacos, and items from food trucks will suck – especially watching Sara enjoy them, but I’d much rather not break out in hives or eczema. I will however go “off the AIP rails” and eat Paleo foods, as long as the items are 1. Organic and 2. Preservative/crap free.
Although I already covered major ground in SoCal to hit (see other articles 1 and 2), I wanted to highlight a bulk of the places in the neighborhood that we were staying in, Santa Monica. Here are some spots during our adventure that made our sisterly R&R so magical:
For almost a year, I was a complete classpass whore. I joined during the first wave when it was only $100 a month and you can go to your favorite gyms as many times as you want. It was heaven, especially because I was in #shreddingforthewedding mode. However, after a few months, I noticed the classes became fuller, the monthly price slowly began to rise, and then got hit with the “3x a month” gym visit. Annoying yes, but did the price/restrictions outweigh other gym memberships? No. I bit my tongue and continued on.
One day, after getting locked out of one of my usual classes, I noticed a class nearby at Lateral Fitness called “TACFIT.” Since I had nothing to lose and needed to fill my morning with a workout, I signed up. Little did I know this was the class to change everything going forward.
To anyone who knows me, they know that I love watching the Real Housewives series on Bravo. Okay, I lied. I’m totally ADDICTED to them. And to answer your question, I watch every city-even though a handful are definitely better than others. 90% of the time involves old(er) rich ladies who fight like they’re back in 8th grade, but that 10% of the time is the portion that keeps me coming back for more. Whether it’s the slick comebacks (NeNe is the Queen), the “jobs” some of these wives have, or the ridiculously gorgeous lives they live (um Lisa V.), TRH series takes precedent in our household.
While I live and breathe #AIP, I still have my moments when I crave normal people food-a.k.a. sweets. Coincidentally enough I thought of this article while watching RHONJ. I mean, what better way to combine my favorite show(s) than with themed treats around town….treats that I would die to eat.
Since April, my work life balance has been totally off. Me and my non-food colleagues have been putting in more hours, giving more brain cells, and having less time to decompress. Although I love my current workout regime (bar, yoga, pilates, strength training), I’m exhausted when arrive to class. I definitely feel like my workouts haven’t been as effective as they were before. I haven’t even been motivated to workout lately-super weird even for me.
Truth be told, because I’m so annoyed/pissed that I have no relaxation time, it affects my motivation and concentration at the gym. Normally, I would use the gym as an escape, but my body/mind are exhausted trying to “zone” out when there’s so many other things on my mind. I finally listened to my husband’s advice and decided to take out my aggression somewhere else than on a gym mat.
