Ugh what I would do to live in Italy. Although I’ve only visited twice, I’ve spent a good chunk of time there both times I’ve visited. As you can imagine, my favorite part of Italy is obviously the food. Don’t get me wrong, the sites are beautiful and the air is fresh AF, but the food is pure gold. I had ZERO stomach or skin issues when I was just there. None. I ate whatever I wanted, where I wanted, no limits on quantity either. And even though we walked around a ton everyday, I LOST weight. Yes, lost. Why? Again, the food is pure.
Are you drooling yet? Well due to this weekend’s jet lag and major head cold, my goals for this weekend hit the dust. That also includes getting motivated to do some grocery shopping. The best I could do is whip up my meal prep for the week using most of my ingredients from the pantry and freezer. Side note, I miss eating WHATEVER I freeking wanted in Italia and NOT breaking out/getting tummy aches. America Food Industry, get your ish together !!!
Between puppy issues and being overwhelmed at work –I’ve definitely been off the grid lately. However, one thing that I have been doing is eating. A lot. Sigh. When I’m stressed, I rarely ever resort to food, it’s the opposite. However, my body has been just craving anything and everything lately. So I’ve given in.
I definitely am one of those people who say when she overdoes it, “well, it’s AIP or Paleo.” However, as we all know, too much of a good thing is not good, even if it is clean. Sigh. That’s how it’s been for me and my week long love affair with almonds. I’ve somehow managed to sneak almond products in my daily intake for the last 14 days and my skin looks like absolute hell because of it. Eczema patches on my legs, arms, and now stomach (which has never happened). Sadly, I knew right then and there that it was time to pull back on the reigns and get back on being strict AIP.
Ugh, what I would do to reverse back the clock to 2005’s Christmas Eve dinner at my Grandmother’s house. This was the last time my family has eaten a homemade polish meal. This was also before I moved out of my parents house, had perpetual student loan payments, experienced my first real heartbreak, food allergies, or experienced a miscarriage. Life was easy and filled with copious amounts of food, more specifically, delicious carby foods. However, it’s currently 2017: my older relatives have passed, the current relatives have gotten older (with more health issues), and current Christmas dinners are store bought from local Polish stores and reheated. What’s a girl with food allergies to do when she has polish nostalgia?
Although I love eating my liver nuggets, I decided to venture out on my organ meat excursion and try something new, beef heart. I’ve dabbled in chicken heart before at a restaurant, but never beef. After ordering it and seeing it in the actual package, it looked disgusting. So I shoved it in our freezer and ate the other proteins I fancied. However, once I bought more food to freeze, the big ole frozen beef heart stuck out like a sore thumb. I gathered my courage and let the heart thaw out….
One thing I miss on AIP is definitely spicy food. I used to LOVE all types of ethnic foods, Ethiopian, Chinese, Peruvian, Thai, Spanish – the spicier the better.
Although I can’t technically have spicy, another thing I love just as much are colorful foods. Seeing only dark greens and bland colored potatoes during the colder months, it’s so refreshing to see bright colored foods at Whole Foods this week. Plus, I’m positive that eating a pretty plate induces happiness. Lord knows I need some sort of positivity in my life.
Now that winter is full blown here in Chitown, everyone and their mothers’ sinuses/respiratory systems are feeling the wrath. Plus, being bone chilling cold outside wants me to get a giant bowl of piping hot ramen (my favorite ramen place in the city is STILL Furious Spoon – not diet compliant). Since luscious ramen noodles and spicy food isn’t allowed on AIP, I had to compromise.
