Happy New Year everyone! 2016 was a year of super highs and lows. From planning a wedding, getting married, changing roles at work, diagnosed with severe food sensitivities, and having a miscarriage, this year has been incredibly stressful. However, I’m (semi) grateful for all of the “bumps” in the road that I’ve dealt with. As much as it has taken a toll on me, it’s made me into a stronger person. At least I’m telling myself that….
Ever since I learned of my random out-0f-nowhere food sensitivities, I haven’t been able to do my normal routine-a.k.a. review restaurants as I have done for Eater and The Chicago Chic. I’d be lying if I said that was not a big deal, but going from eating anything I wanted to only eating certain things has been very hard on me. Although I still keep up with the food news around the country, only being able to eat at a few different restaurants outside of my kitchen has crushed my ego. Even IG creeping is disappointing. While I’ve been mentally sulking about this since May, it’s time for me to move on and move forward.
In 2017, I’ve decided to put a new face (kind of) on OFP. Everything that I post on my IG and on my blog will be something I personally experience. No more featuring restaurants I can’t eat at, no more brands I don’t believe in – nothing inauthentic. I know I’ll probably lose a lot of followers for that reason. It’s clear to me that the popular thing nowadays is to feature any item of food to get your handle a ton of IG likes. I’m sick of the phoniness that the blogger world has now turned into and I refuse to be apart of it anymore. Just because I don’t get 200+ likes every picture doesn’t mean that my content is bad or that I’m wrong in my thinking. It just means that the blogger world is still relying on the aesthetics rather than the message.
So for those who have been and still want to stick around for the new change, thank you. It’s been a great experience and a huge blessing that I’ve been able to share my life experiences with you. I look forward on continuing to share my journey and just being ME. In the spirit of new beginnings, here is a recipe I created:
“New Year, New Face” Smoothie
- 2/3 Cup of Coconut Milk from Natural Value (their cans have no guar gum or BPA lining, YES!)
- 1 TBSP of Organic Ground Maca
- 1-2 TBSP of Great Lakes Collagen (Green Can)
- 1 TBSP of Organic Ground Spirulina
- 3 TBSP of Organic Gemini Super Boost
- 1/2 cup of Zico Coconut Water
- Your choice of either 1/2 of an Avocado OR 1/2 of a Frozen Banana (must be a browned banana)
- Dump all in a magic bullet and let it spin for about a minute or so.
