Started by Bob and Gina Hartwig, once culinary colleagues, now eternal lovebirds, Lovely began as a small bake shop in Wicker Park and has now grown to be apart of a three-store-empire.

Behind the Scenes of Cochon Volant

The Behind the Scenes series entails insight from behind the chef’s counter and a restaurant’s outlook of its past, present, and future. 

With the spirit of Bastille Day upon us (check out thechicagochic.com for my latest roundup), my favorite and I stress FAVORITE restaurant at the moment is the “flying pig” itself, Cochon Volant. Located in the heart of the loop, dangerously close to my office, this upscale French bistro has been making tidal waves since its opening in April.

The Bristol

Up on North Damen, away from the craziness of the Six Corners and Division St, lies Chicago’s best not-kept secret, The Bristol. Once named as one of the Best New Restaurants in America by GQ, still a continuous champion on the Eater 38, had previously received accolades from Zagat and more, The Bristol has been a neighborhood favorite since opening its doors.
